Coffee Intake Decreases Risk of Liver Damage
As reported yesterday, a study of 9,849 participants over about 19 years shows that "those who drank more than two cups of coffee or tea per day developed chronic liver disease at half the rate of those who drank less than one cup each day." It appears to have something to do with caffeine.

So if you drink a lot of alchohol, you should also be drinking a lot of coffee!

Coffee has also been shown to have a dose-dependent protective effect against Parkinson's disease(From the Journal of Neurological Sciences).
And, FYI, the protective effect of alcohol is also thought to be dose-dependent, however, increasing amounts of alcohol comsumption is associated with an increased amount of time spent in bars, and therefore an increased exposure to tobacco, which has a deleterious effect on the heart.
